 Jim was a  very good teacher, particularly of the young campers.  One mild morning, we watched him take three Cabin 1 age campers out on a Comet.  They were "In port" for an hour, rigging the boat. They completed all the work and sailed it away themselves.  Jim never touched a thing.

Katherine Gallagher Wright: Lex Birney!!! In the summer of 1973, I had the biggest  crush on him. I was only 14, but I was convinced I would one day marry him!

I actually ran into him when I was 18 in St. Michaels, MD one evening. Fittingly, he was on a beautiful sailboat, which he very kindly allowed my best friend and me to come aboard.
